Who I am
Flávia Fayet-Moore
PhD, MNutDiet, BSc(Honours), APD, RNutr, FASLM
Dr Flávia Fayet-Moore, known as Dr Fláv — is an award-winning nutrition scientist, space nutritionist, and international keynote speaker redefining how audiences think about the future of food, human health, and what’s truly possible.
With more than two decades in nutrition science and as an active scientist, Dr Fláv brings rare credibility to the stage. She holds an Honours degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto, a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics and PhD in Nutrition Science from the University of Sydney, and is the first dietitian in Australia to be board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine. She is an adjunct Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, chair of the Olive Wellness Institute Scientific Advisory Committee, on the health and nutrition boards for New England University and Southern Cross University and was a founding board member of the Australian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She also serves on the editorial boards of the journals Lifestyle Medicine and Public Health Nutrition.
What sets her apart, however, is where her science has taken her. Dr Fláv was the principal investigator of Mission MushVroom — the globally recognised project that sent the first crop of mushrooms into space on the Fram2 mission aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule. The mission reached over 1.5 billion people worldwide and revealed a powerful insight in her keynote: that the future of food is being built in space, and it is already transforming how we feed people on Earth.
Her work shows that space is not a distant curiosity, but the ultimate testing ground for human health and food systems. Dr Fláv shows her audiences how space provides an environment you can’t mimic on Earth, and it breaks some of our assumptions about food & nutrition. She demonstrates how breakthroughs labelled “impossible” are often just gaps in exploration.
Audiences leave thinking differently about what’s possible — and energised by the realisation that the future is much closer than they imagined.
As founder and CEO of FOODiQ Global, she bridges science, industry, and real-world impact. On stage, Dr Flav combines evidence, storytelling, and warmth to create an edutainment experience that is both engaging and credible. She is the co-founder of Food is Cool, where nutrition in schools is done differently. Food is Cool is on a mission to increase access to evidence-based nutrition education for the early years, so that everyone is empowered to have a positive relationship with food for life, while making food cool!
