Inhalation versus digestion on ABC Radio

Inhalation versus digestion with nutritionist Dr Flavia Fayet-Moore

11/23/2024

As a human, you probably love air - in fact, you might have even had some today.

But new research from two Australian scientists suggests that air provides you with not only oxygen, but also micro nutrients, and bacteria.

Their paper, A Breath of Fresh Air: Perspectives on Inhaled Nutrients and Bacteria to Improve Human Health, even claims that larger molecules could be absorbed through air, rather than via eating, because they aren't broken up during the digestion process.

Co-author of the paper, Dr Flavia Fayet-Moore, spoke to Alice Zaslavsky about the work.
